After threatening to retire from the hip-hop game earlier this year to dedicate his time to acting, producing and reading the Bible, DMX returns to what may or may not be his swan song. The title is a dog-fighting reference, and the rapper sounds like he's barking mad. Typically, DMX has two modes of communication: loud and louder; he employs them both here. A lot. On "My Life," he hollers gruffly over an Aerosmith sample; "Bring the Noise" sees him hollering gruffly over a mélange of wah-wah guitars and old-school funk; while "We Bout to Blow" shows a different side...um, DMX hollering gruffly along with his Ruff Ryders compadres. Grand Champ would make a great single. As it stands, it's about a full hour more of DMX hollering gruffly than anybody really needs.
